Recycling resources has always been a key element of Val's designs. She wanted to find a way of reusing the off-cuts of expensive coloured glass which had previously been discarded from stained glass studios. Results were interesting and varied according to the type of glass. Some seaweed became bulbous, some skinny, some spiky, some sinuous, but all were beautiful and reflected and refracted light in wonderful ways. Different glasses transmitted light in very different ways - some pieces became very transparent, whilst others became treacly and opaque. This helped to build up atmosphere and intrigue.

Some pieces are given leather cords and became pendants, while others can be suspended on invisible threads and became part of a lighting installation. Options are infinite. These seaweed pieces can be hung individually or in collective groups: size, shape texture and colour being readily adaptable to suit the individual installation.
